VADM Eduardo Ma R Santos, MAAP President together with Engr. Gerardo Ramon S. Galang, MIITD Director attended the Kongsberg Digital Maritime Simulation User Conference 2022 held in Horten, Norway last November 9-11, 2022. The theme of this year's event is "MAKING WAVES: Empowering Maritime Education and Training with Cutting-Edge Simulation Technology".

This year’s International Simulation User Conference focused on how cutting-edge simulation solutions can empower maritime education and training, increase competence and support decision-making and smarter, safer, and greener maritime operations.

Engr. Gerardo Ramon S. Galang presented a paper entitled "Meeting Tomorrow’s Requirements in the Maritime Industry with an Innovation Lab", which focused on the salient issues that will shape the future of maritime education and training and how MAAP evolved with the use of simulators from the traditional maritime education and training perspective towards research, development and conduct feasibility studies. The presentation also highlighted the continuous partnership between MAAP and Kongsberg Digital in establishing an innovation laboratory that will provide the next generation of simulators including a Remote Operations Center (ROC) and a Shore Control Center (SCC) for autonomous vessel operation.

The conference was one of the largest held with over 180 participants from all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, China, India, Philippines, Greece, Canada, USA, Mexico, Ukraine, England, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands. Breakout sessions include topics ranging from Remote Operations Center (ROC) to new ways of using digital technology for training purposes.

The goal of the conference program was to facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences in order to enhance the collective knowledge of the international simulation community.
