CENTER FOR ADVANCED MARITIME STUDIES
Program Offering

The Center as approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will initially offer the following graduate programs:

1. Master of Science in Marine Transportation (Marine Superintendent)
2. Master of Science in Marine Engineering (Technical Superintendent)

Both are vertical advancements of the undergraduate programs offered by the Academy and are designed to confer a higher level of competence of the candidate specialization.

The syllabi incorporated all the competence elements of DNV Standard 3.301 or Competence Standard for Ship Superintendents as well as the inputs from the maritime stakeholders. We then benchmarked the program against other similar academic/training programs offered by internationally known maritime education and training providers. The result is the first vertically articulated maritime postgraduate programs offered in the Philippines, qualifying the candidates to the requirements of CHED CMO 40 for those who want to pursue an academic career as well as for the qualification and competence of a Marine and or Technical Superintendent as per DNV Standard 3.301.

Program Delivery - Addressing the Issues

The apparent reluctance of Filipino Seafarers to participate in technical discussion and their poor writing skills are addressed in the programs where the student goes through “Activity, Analysis, Abstraction and Application” scheme of the elements of each course and exposure to special lectures and seminars from visiting professors. Each candidate will be required to create a (document) portfolio from each course and seminar he attended and will be subjected to critique by his peers and by the faculty. Program delivery is through the blended method (i.e. distance learning, classroom case studies, simulation and or live setting) and is designed to encourage active student participation.
