MAAP published its maiden issue of MAAP Journal. It contained refereed papers that were presented either within MAAP or outside MAAP (national or international) in AY 2000 -2001 and AY 2001- 2002.
In January 2004, ASEAN-EU Research Networking (AUNP) project on Human Resource Development started. Nine selected MAAP faculty and staff together with their Asian and European counterparts were trained on research and teaching for curriculum development in MET. In support to the AUNP Project, MAAP hosted the First International Research Led Seminar-Workshop on Women Seafarers on June 1-4,2004 and the First International Action Research Meeting on July 1-3, 2004 for the joint action research on CBT required by the project. In every activity participated, the knowledge gained was cascaded in MAAP for a domino effect. In the process, curriculum and instruction are enhanced and there was an increase in the number of institutional, national and international research papers that were produced by MAAP faculty and staff for presentation and publication of papers.
On March 12, 2004, MAAP President officially inducted the pioneer officers and members of the Midshipmen Research and Extension Services Circle or MRESC. Composed of well -selected midshipmen from different class levels, MRESC is tasked to plan at least one research activity in a year for the corps of midshipmen aimed at enhancing their research skills in order to produce relevant action researches that may be utilized for institutional development and improvement of MET.
On March 6 and 13, 2004, the Department of Research and Extension Services in cooperation with the Academics Department trained all the thirty members of the MRESC on research and basic statistics. The MRESC members on the other hand trained the interested corps of midshipmen (various class levels) for a continuous beneficial effect.
On July 14,2004, the MAAP Research Led Seminar –Workshop on Women Seafarers was conducted with female cadets and faculty members/staff in attendance. A paper “Problems Encountered by Women Seafarers On Board Ships as Perceived by MAAP Midshipwomen: Its Implications to MET Innovations“ was accomplished because of this activity.
On October 14, 2006, MAAP hosted the First National Research Led Seminar-Workshop on Women seafarers with a hundred woman cadets form different maritime schools in attendance. Ideas about various women’s rights, benefits and life at sea were shared and a venue in fostering camaraderie among women cadets was provided. It is expected that a number of inter-maritime schools collaborative research outputs would be realized, thus strengthening maritime research networking in the county through women cadets under the tutelage of their respective instructors.
