Basic Safety Training Course covers the requirements of the Maritime Training Council (MTC), the lead agency of the Philippine Administration in the implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention) as amended, and the Seafarer's Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Code (STCW Code).

This course comprises of four distinct modules : Personal Survival Technique (13.25 hrs), Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (15 hrs), Elementary First Aid (12 hrs) and Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (14 hrs).
